Better late than never

I’ve started the Tuesday KAL/CAL Tea Cozy finally… I’ve been delayed in finding an appropriate stash yarn for the project. I looked before this KAL and I swear I couldn’t find anything. Then, Stitches n’ Scraps, made a post this morning and I felt terrible I hadn’t yet started. So I searched again…this time, I dove head first and I came up with Red Heart Eco Way in a dark green color. I think it’s a bit dark for the cables to pop and a little heavier (it’s aran weight) but it will do.

Cold, collar and contagion

It’s the 3rd day in the new year and the north east has been inundated with snow. From what I can tell, (of course, from my window because I surely was not going outside) we have between 6″-10″ and it’s 10 degrees. It is freezing and for once, I’m glad to be in my bed!

On this day, I woke up feeling sick; sneezing and congested, later on with a headache. Most certainly an uncomfortable feeling. So most of the day I’ve been in and out of sleep and re-watching episodes of Fringe. Despite not feeling well, I have enjoyed this time just resting.

My plan for today, prior to this contagion (well, not quite) was to work on Hettie’s collar. So sick or not, that is exactly what I did. I managed to pick up the stitches and almost completed the collar…and it didn’t take as long as I thought. Admittedly, I had a problem with the picking up stitches instructions; it was my own problem in over thinking this simple task. I always do this with simple projects and I’m not sure why…I never have this problem with more complex patterns.

I’m re-thinking the yarn selection (it’s not like I’m changing it anyway) as this reminds me of mohair because it sheds some. I think I would have preferred a smoother yarn like Cascade 220. Oh well. This is still a great sweater and I can’t wait to wear it!

Remember when…

…I posted about making a blankie with my stash and I asked y’all to vote? I still can’t find the winning stash yarn, so I started it on the GGH bulky yarn I had on hand…all the little bits and pieces. I was tempted to get into a ball of another color and begin a design element, but I decided against it. I love, LOVE bulky yarn and this did go very quickly!

About the pattern: I thought it was easy as pie; well written; rhythmic and easy to memorize. I modified this pattern slightly, just making the middle knitted segments into one larger segment. Not a big mod. This was not as painful of a task as a blanket might have been and not at any moment did I feel overwhelmed.

Because of the shortage of yarn, I had to make some cuts on widths of the border. I had to pull out my cast on edge, just in the event I had to go with a design element option. I’m telling you, I almost didn’t have enough to bind off the cast on edge!! Which I think is just weird, but I made it by the skin of my teeth.

The good news is, it MAY have a home to go to! I found out today, that one of my co-worker’s is preggers so in a few weeks I’ll know the sex….And that will determine if this blankie will have a home or not. Cross your fingers for me.
