ESK 2015 Yarnathon : Team Fleecy Foxes

In community challenges, events, knitting, stash busting on April 4, 2015 at 4:10 pm

I’m surprised at myself (and also ashamed) for not sharing this with you all from the beginning of the year… I’ve been actively participating in the ESK Yarnathon.

I’m competitive. I like to win and I like team effort. I like to participate in activities with the possibility of winning. And especially when yarn is involved it’s definitely a win, win!

Eat, Sleep, Knit yarn shoppe (which I know, I’ve mentioned time and time again) has an annual Yarnathon.  Each person is assigned a team (this year I’m Team Fleecy Foxes).  There are specific task based assignments to complete in order to earn prizes for not only yourself, but the team.  I like this because it keeps me focused and I have something to look forward to when I’m done.

I mean, I’ve even found myself plotting my ESK Yarnathon strategy so that I’m efficient in my yarn purchases and maximize my knitting time when I can! I’ve “charted” out in my agenda book when I’m going to knit! So OCD me! lol

This is what I’m competing for: Booster Badges and KAL’s.

So far I’ve completed KAL: headgear and new-to-you

I’ve gotten a bunch of badges so far too: social stalker, stash diver, all the single ladies, queue anonymous, and recently, phone a friend.

I’m pretty pleased with myself with what I’ve accomplished so far, considering that my time is limited.

My next 2 KAL’s I’ll be working on is KAL#12: Chunky Knits, KAL#10: Selfless Knits and the badges are: Popularity Contest, Binge Knitter, and Mini-Knits.

Hurray!

Join the fun!

I need love

I’m in the running for some ESK badges and I need help.

I’m shooting for the Popularity Contest badge.

Please love my Sand Banks hats, this and that. I need a minimum of 20 hearts  for at least one of these projects.

 Show me some love!

Dream In Color Groovy

Dream In Color is a dream come true, but that was not my initial impression. I started another hat with it and when I frogged it, the ripped yarn looked worn out. I didn’t like it and I felt uncomfortable casting on and re-casting on for Sand Banks. But when it was all said and done, when the ribbing had formed, the yarn came to life. It was better than a dream. What I love is the subtle tonal striped effects that beautifully formed in the cable. It was an unexpected, yet pleasant surprise. I have 3 more skeins of this yarn; 1 blue and 2 orange. My only regret is that I didn’t buy more as it is, unfortunately, discontinued. I can only hope my Ravelry brethren will be willing to give it up when the call comes. Groovy is a work horse and it’s awesome!

Update: Skeins available here.

All I wanted

In knitting on June 30, 2014 at 7:00 pm

Here’s the rational…I had to win and win BIG. With that in mind, here’s what happened….

I was minding my own business checking my email when I received notice from Eat, Sleep, Knit that they were giving away double the lotto tickets today with any purchase. So, back to the rational… I told you my conspiracy theory about the lottery tickets before where I keep winning the $5 discount (which, at the end of the day,is better than none). I’m hoping that I can win one of the kits or free yarn this time around. I ordered 1 discontinued color skein of Madelinetosh tosh dk which ended up being $18 and change minus my $5 credit from before, plus $3 s&h so I ended up spending like $16 and change. I’ll let you know how it goes with my winnings!

Did I ever mention that my new system to shop here is in promotional events like this, and mainly during Black Friday. On Black Friday you can really win BIG….they have a random lottery at checkout and you can get your whole cart F.R.E.E.

#hello #smile #iheart

Update: it wasn’t my email (i could have sworn it was:oops:) it was facebook….I was still minding my business though!😋

Black Friday Haul

In knitting on December 5, 2013 at 9:06 pm

I posted about it and I was about it.
I indulged in the Eat,Sleep, Knit’s Black Friday sale.

My purchase came in the mail today and though I was looking forward to the yarn, I have to admit I was more excited about the lottery ticket! In fact, when it came it was the first thing I grabbed! I was excited until I scratched it and saw what I got… Ok, I’m not complaining (not really) but I’m disappointed!

My prize? A $5 store credit. I always get this!

I am convinced that they know what each lottery ticket holds and separate each prize result in a specified, labelled bin. Hmph. Can I please win a kit or a $50 store credit?

I guess I’ll keep trying.

Yes, ok, I digress. The yarn…

I ordered one skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted in the color Echo (left) and one skein Squoosh Fiberarts Ultra Worsted (right) in color Velvet.

I was again disappointed, but not with the whole parcel. I thought that Echo was more of a grey, but when I received it,looks like dried face mask grey-brown. I had planned to use it for Structured Alpaca Cowl but now I’m not inspired to use it for that…..I had a very specific vision. It will have to grow on me I suppose. I’m not using it for the cowl I don’t think. I’ll order something else. Sigh.

I did loooooove the Velvet though! I think it will be fantastic with Fable Fibers Biography DK in Chloe. Although the KAL is over, I would very much still like to make a pair of mittens to match my cowl.

After taking and posting this picture on Instagram, I’m not sure I like this combo. I could have sworn it was a little redder and not so rusty, brown looking. Ugh! Well, at least this color is among my regular picks so it’s not bad. The yarn is actually browner than what picture shows.

Do you think it’s a good match?

Maybe I’m not getting good color on my phone or tablet?

Oh no, I didn’t post about my KAL cowl yet! Hold tight! It’s coming. It’s on my Ravelry page though.

Updated:
Um, I think I was in such a yarn buying craze I couldn’t see straight! The yarn is as exactly as pictured! Lol Well now, what to do, ’cause they ain’t working’!
