Let’s Make and Donate

In community challenges, Uncategorized on November 16, 2017 at 12:55 pm

There are many babies in this world who need our support and love we create in making hats. Recently, urgent calls have been made requesting that we – the skilled, talented, gifted – knitters and crocheters, heal the world. When we share and give of ourselves, and literally LOVE in action,  we create community and hope.

It is with urgency I request your support in making 100 or more hats to donate by February 11, 2018Although I favor the P.U.R.P.L.E initiative and Red hat project, there are others who need us.

Make and mail hats to your favorite cause. Thanks in advance for your support. Please comment how many hats you will commit to make.

Change in circumstance

In community challenges, crochet, knitting on December 14, 2013 at 12:19 pm

Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances that has been the source of the trouble I’m experiencing, the blanket will no longer go to the intended recipient. I will, however, send the cards that were sent for her.  The blanket will be going to someone’s relative at work who is sick. So at least it’s still going to someone in need and will have some gratitude.  At the moment it is being seamed; I’ll be sure to post a picture of the finished piece.

Updated: Cowl will be given away. I will make another for myself.

Another change is that I’m thinking about dissolving my knitting and crochet group at work. I’m getting tired and discouraged. Perhaps in January I’ll be more refreshed.

I really don’t have any more words right now. So, that is all.

Photo Challenge Day 15

In community challenges, knitting on October 15, 2013 at 10:11 pm

This plant is from Bissel Garden and one if my friends who works on the garden gave it to me. The name is not something I remember, but if you recognize it, please tell me. I think its purslane or something like that. Its supposed to be a bit peppery. This needs to be repotted in the worst way.

Started 8/30/13 at midnight. Needless to say it was riddled with errors and I had to pull it out multiple times. I left it alone.

9/5/13: I returned to the square. Ripped out once because somehow the numbers were off working from the bottom up. I decided to work top – down from right to left. Stitches were matching up and everything was looking great until I realized the word “ain’t” was backwards. RIPPED! No more starting over tonight. Maybe tomorrow or something.

I think because my mind is occupied I need to be working on something simpler then return. I’m thinking about a steek. Flat fair isle is not fun. Boooooo!!! :-\

Third square… 2nd time around

In crochet, knitting on August 28, 2013 at 12:15 pm

As you know, I redid the 3rd square due to some sizing issues. I finished this on Saturday 8.24.13. And I couldn’t be happier with the results!

In hindsight, I’m actually glad that I had to redo the piece as I had an opportunity to learn this stitch pattern. It also taught me patience and to have more pride in my work.

This time around, the stitch pattern did not require so much focus and I was able to memorize it and even watch Bollywood movies!

This was a fantastic pattern and showed me how, just even small changes in how we knit can produce a beautiful pattern that looks complex but isn’t.

Great pattern! On to number 4… I may go back to basics with some knit and purl based stitch patterns.

Psychic prediction about package

In crochet, knitting on August 27, 2013 at 10:29 pm

After a Facebook message from the donor of one the squares, Stitches n’ Scraps, this morning inquiring if the package was received…Here it is! It was received this evening. It’s like she was psychic or something! Lol

This is an exquisite double knitted square. Meaning, both sides of the square have the same design, but the colors are inverted. It feels lovely indeed… Very cushy. I love the bright jewel tone of it! This takes some serious skill! I’m definitely not on this level of knitting! It’s amazing!

Thank you so much! I know that the card is for my cousin so I left it alone. I’ll give her all the cards with the blanket.

Numero 3

In knitting on August 22, 2013 at 11:03 pm

I’m coming along ok with squares…using the stash I have, hence the same colors being repeated. This stitch pattern is called Fuchsia. I started it on 8/21… I had only just casted on, but the real work began 8/22.  It’s not a hard pattern, but you have to pay attention. This is not a watch tv and knit kind of stitch pattern.  I learned this the hard way. There is a big mistake but I have no intention of ripping out! Found it too late. Carry on I shall (and did)! Finished it now!

Problem: it is 8″ wide… I guess I’ll be ripping back after all.

Back to the drawing board.

Number two

In knitting on August 22, 2013 at 5:15 pm

This was completed only yesterday… shoulda been sooner but I couldn’t. I started it a couple days after I posted about the first one. I had no energy whatsoever. Easy stitch pattern… Easy to memorize. Could easily be one of my faves. This is called two-colored loop stitch.

I love doing these squares so far..they provide really good inspiration and has my mind filling with ideas.

On to numero 3.

Mail is in

In crochet, knitting on August 19, 2013 at 11:46 pm

After a long day of work and then off to Camp Casita for yarn dyeing, I came home to a package… the cutest manilla envelope from SaraCrafts. It wasn’t a bill, and so it was cute! It brought a huge smile on my face!

She waddled her preggo self to the post office just for me to get this blanket done for my cousin! It also happened she got her giveaway prize from me today as well!

The blanket square is so beautiful with a lace heart motif in the middle. With it came 2 notes; one in an envelope and another on a post it on the envelope. I read both… So,so thoughtful. I think the enveloped one is for my cousin. So what I’ll do is hold this and any other notes for her and mail it off with the blanket. It’s good for her to know that other people care about her… Even those who don’t know her.

A big thanks to you Sara! I really do sincerely appreciate your kindness. I’m so grateful.

First down

In crochet, knitting on August 13, 2013 at 10:22 pm

Nope, I ain’t talking ’bout no football! Lol I’m definitely not a sports fan, but my first “square” is complete(really since last night, but I was too tired to post).

I saw getting “squares” for my cousins blanket as an opportunity to try out some stitch patterns I’ve been curious about.  This particular one being, the popcorn stitch.  It actually was not at all hard and had a nice rhythmic feel once I got into it. Because I thought that this would show up best on a light colored yarn, I chose this chartreuse color.

This has been my favorite color for a couple years now.  If and when I change my mind about making blankets, I would like a traveling blanket in this color.  I digress…I haven’t blocked my “square” yet, but I wanted to show you what I got.

I’m off now to choose the next stitch pattern for “square” number 2. What shall it be?
