Pattern release: Instincts

In designing, knitting, portfolio, stash busting on May 25, 2017 at 6:26 pm

Instincts is an expression of authentic emotions conveyed by colors that are outside the scope of aesthetically coordinated hues. This fair-isle hat is simple, yet makes a bold statement.  Be bold in your color choices.

Gumblebee Goodness

Eat, Sleep, Knit Yarnathon…I’m back at it again!

This year I’m on team Gumblebee and the hive is amazing!

One of the projects to earn stars is to make a project that has your team mascot in it. Looking through some of the hives projects, I saw Bumblebee socks. My hive-mate made it in pink and green, so it caught my attention. Of course I messaged them to tell them it was fabulous, but expressed my sadness because I don’t like toe-up socks and I don’t know how to do that.

The response I got was incredible and I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this myself…use a basic top-down sock pattern and insert the chart. Genius, right?! So that’s what I’ll be doing. My yarn is on the way.

Going through more Bumblebee socks projects, just looking at outcomes, I saw another fabulous pair.  This person ripped theirs back (they didn’t like toe-up socks, I later found out) and their tension was damn near perfect. So of course, I message them and let them know. Messaging them, it turns out, has inspired them to start this project again, top-down….I’m hoping they’ll take me up in my offer to KAL.

For some reason, this KAL got me thinking that socks are basic items that everyone needs, but it’s something that homeless people often don’t get in care packs.  I felt inspired to make socks for some charity for the homeless.  I haven’t sorted the plan or done research yet, but maybe this is something we can do together.

My first pair of Gumblebee socks, although I want it, will be for my friend who just had surgery.

Join me to KAL…START:April 8

Holey Moley

In knitting on February 9, 2017 at 10:33 pm

When people know you are a knitter, the believe you can do anything (and we can), including making repairs on tattered favorites.  With normal wear and tear, it is expected that items will develop 1 or 2 small holes…easy enough to repair.  What I was handed though, was ridiculous….one huge hole, at least 4″ in diameter. This monstrosity is situated right in the crevice and cusp in the underarm region. The fiber content is 50% wool and 50% camel hair; the weight could be DK or sport, maybe even worsted.

Take a look:

I’m taking ha problem to the streets!

I got questions! What’s a gal to do?! I got nothin’. This here, is a situation!
Any ideas on how to go about attempting this repair?

2017 Knit Year

In Uncategorized on January 8, 2017 at 11:10 pm

Every 365 days we renew, refresh, and revise our perspective, determination and drive. This pivotal period between the old year and the new, allows us to decide and define the steps needed to succeed, including changes to be made. We create internalized grandiose promises and goals that can affect the construct of our daily lives and direct our life course,  but in the end, sometimes unattainable.  Successs in meeting these resolutions, are measured in consistency; consistently striving to meet these goals despite obstacles that appear.

For knitters, we also face a similar struggle with our knitterlutions. We create here goals, without realistic consideration of our full lives and responsibilities that entails…after all, we are still social beings and cannot be isolated and solely dedicated to our knitting. Knitting takes up a lot of time…even the smallest of projects. We know this! We also know, to really see any progress in our work, we must knit a minimum of 3 hours per session.  As we plan our knitterlutions, we must keep that in mind.

I now submit to you, my own knitterlutions for 2017

1. PINK AND GREEN: the color scheme of the year for various projects

2. CROCHET: make at least 1 crochet project

3. STASH AND DASH: use the stash for projects or donate them

4. STITCH A DAY: daily knitting needed, even if for 5 minutes

5. DREAM IT, DO IT: design, knit mock ups, write pattern, publish AND/OR commissioned projects
